Volinia Alumni Reunion
Volinia Outcomes
School held its 20 year reunion banquet
on Friday April 22nd at the school.
Twenty alumni ranging from the class of 1993 to the
class of 2010 were in attendance. Five former staff
members, including 1st principal, John
Severson attended, along with current staff.
The guests were
treated to a delectable dinner, memory sharing from
alumni and staff and prize drawings. Twenty years
of pictures, memory books and graduation booklets
were on display for everyone to enjoy.
Side
conversations filled the gym all night as students
and staff relived their time spent at Volinia.
Niece (Snyder)
Pierce, class of 1993 said, “She is so thankful for
what Volinia did for her in 1993 and then her son
Zach in 2010.” She went on to say how important
Volinia is for the community and students that need
a “second chance.” The students stood in ovation
after her comments, which was very touching to all
staff.
Celebrating 20
years as an alternative program is a great
accomplishment, one that all of Cass County and
surrounding communities can be proud of.
Maple Fest 2011
A great syrup
producing season culminated with Volinia Outcomes
School’s annual maplefest on Saturday March 26th,
which included an all you can eat pancake breakfast,
horse drawn wagon rides, and maple product sales.
A nice day
contributed to another great turnout as the morning
was steady with people from all over Southwest
Michigan. A gentleman from Schoolcraft stated he
had been coming since the first year and looks
forward to it every year.
Staff and
students worked hard very hard at preparing for this
big day and then worked hard throughout the morning
to make sure everything ran as smooth as possible.
The season
produced over 110 gallons of syrup, which beat the
previous record of 107 set in 2006. In fact, syrup
is still being produced at the time of this
writing! Cold temperatures throughout March have
extended the sap flow and sugar content.
While plenty of
syrup was sold the day of festival, plenty still
remains. If you are interested in purchasing great
tasting pure maple syrup, call the school at
782-9716 or just stop on out.
Thanks to the
placemat advertisers, community members who
volunteered, staff and students for making Volinia
Maplefest another successful year
